IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE OBHA FILLY & STALLION PROGRAMS
As of 2024 Annual Meeting, entrants in all filly and stallion programs MUST SHOW at a minimum of 2 shows in order to qualify for year end payouts
At the OBHA Annual Meeting held on January 19, 2019 some changes were approved to the filly programs. The changes made will provide consistency with the stallion programs moving forward.
The filly programs will no longer be called the “Ontario Bred & Sired” Filly Programs. Instead they will now be called the “Ontario Bred & Owned” Filly Programs.
With the lower number of stallions owned and standing in Ontario, we’ve been having fewer and fewer fillies nominated to the filly programs. The change to the program means that the sire of the filly no longer has to be standing in Ontario in order for the filly to be eligible to be nominated. The main rules in regard to the filly programs are:
- The filly must be from a mare owned by a resident of the Province of Ontario at the time of service
- The filly must be owned by a resident of the Province of Ontario
- The owner must be a current member of the Ontario Belgian Horse Association
- The filly must be nominated with the OBHA by March 1 of the current year
The membership also voted on a nomination fee increase for the Ontario Bred & Owned Yearling Filly Program. The nomination fee will increase to $50 per filly (plus a $25 penalty if the filly was not nominated to the filly foal program in the prior year) starting in 2019. Two Year Old Fillies can be nominated for $25 per entry (plus a $25 penalty if the filly was not nominated to the yearling filly program in the prior year). Yearling and 2 Year Old fillies need to be nominated by March 1, 2019.
The nomination fee for the filly foals and stallion foals will remain at $25 per entry. Yearling stallions can also be nominated for $25 per entry (plus a $25 penalty if the filly was not nominated to the stallion foal program in the prior year). The nominations to these programs continue to be due by July 1, 2019.
With the increase in the number of stallion foals that have been nominated over the past few show seasons, the membership voted to increase the payouts to the participants of the program from 5 placings to 10 placings beginning in 2019.
