Junior Showmanship Program

Rules & Regulations

Revised 2009

 

Eligibility:      Open to residents of Ontario interested in showing Belgian horses at the designated fairs

 

Juniors: 8 to 13 as of January 1st. of the current year

Seniors: 18 years and under as of January 1st. of the current year                                

(most fairs will show both ages together, but points will be rewarded separately). 

 

Junior membership fee will be deducted from year end winnings

 

*All participants must compete in a minimum of three designated fairs to be eligible for year end awards*

 

Designated Fairs:   Erin, Paris, Rockton, Collingwood, Lindsay, Forest, Markham, Markdale, Simcoe, Orillia, Brooklin, Melbourne, Alviston, Petrolia, Navan, CNE, Peterbough, Campbellford, Royal, Norwood, Schomberg, Carp

 

Judging: The following points will be considered when judging the class:

                   - Suitability of horse to showperson

                   - ability of exhibitor to control horse

                   - alertness to judge

                   - attentiveness to horse

                   - following correct showing procedures

                   - proper appearance and dress

                   - proper footwear

                   - horse to be clean & appropriately groomed & decorated

 

Awards: Points are awarded at each designated fair

            You may show at as many fairs as you wish. Only the best five scores will count towards year end awards.  Points will be awarded in reverse order to the number of entries. For example, if there were six Belgian Entries, the highest placing showperson would receive six points, the second highest five points and the lowest placing one point.

 

            Points will be awarded independently to jrs. & srs. For example, if there were six Belgian entries, two jrs.  & four srs, the highest placing jr. would receive two points & the highest placing sr. would receive four Points.

 

            Awards will be presented at the annual Banquet & Dance held in November

 

            A trophy will be presented to the top jr. & sr. & a plaque to the second & third place in each division

 

Cash Awards:             Seniors- 1st. -$75.00, 2nd. -$50.00, 3rd. -$35.00, all others $25.00

                                    Juniors- 1st. -$50.00, 2nd. -$35.00, 3rd. -$25.00, all others $20.00

 

THESE RULES TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER ANY RULES STATED AT THE DESIGNATED FAIRS

 

The OBHA form (see bottom of this webpage for pdf file) for the Youth Showmanship classes needs to be submitted
at the end of the show season for the tally of points and verification
that three shows were attended. Please submit to
